Jonesboro Names Its New AI Dispatcher After the Woman Whose Job It Now Does
The Jonesboro Police Department in Arkansas ran a two-day test of an AI call-taker, Lezle, on its non-emergency line — named for Lezle Wilson, a longtime JPD dispatcher who died in 2023. Lezle takes the caller's name and number, asks questions to determine what's happening, and either logs a non-emergency call for an officer or hands off to a live dispatcher if the situation escalates. Human dispatchers monitor every call in real time and can force an immediate transfer. Why it matters: Non-emergency call volume is the load that burns out small-department dispatch staff without ever making the news when it goes wrong.
